Just a small update

On 2010/08/18, in Life, MMA, Wrestling, by Umbrood

Have been slack at writing hasn’t been time for it during the last few weeks before leaving, but it all starting to come together.

Hopefully I will be able to catch the WEC50 PPV this weekend, as I haven’t been watching much WEC the last few months. That will probably be the last MMA show I will be able to see in a long time as I haven’t been able to figure out where and how to watch MMA and WWE in New Zealand. I hopefully will find a nice pub that will show PPV and such so I can have a few beers while watching the PPV without having to get the expensive SKY cable package.

Dream 15

On 2010/07/23, in MMA, Sports, by Umbrood

Getting ready for another mammoth Japanese MMA event I will probably have to divide this up into several parts as the event is almost 4 hours long and I can only watch so much MMA in one go, especially since the Australian commentator gets on my nerves. But after some nice montage its time for the first match of the evening, and I dont really know much about the different fighters here, but Ill just call it as I see it.

Karl Amoussou (11-2-2) vs. Kazuhiro Nakamura (14-10)

Apparently Nakamura isn’t known for finishing fights, but hopefully this will be a fast paced fight nonetheless. Coming of the WEC show and the last UFC the bar is set rather high for this event as a whole.

Karl comes out throwing very fast high kicks and looking to take off Nakamuras head. Its a finisher vs. a decision grinder, Karl gets taken down and winds up with Nakamura in his full guard. You can see the difference between fighting in a cage vs. a ring in the ground game, Nakamura isn’t letting Karl get back to his feet without a fight. Karl looks winded at the 4 minute mark, he’s not throwing the kicks any more from the fear of getting taken down again. Karl goes for a take down, and winds up on the bottom, bad move should have kept it standing in my opinion. Nakamura controls Karl from the top position and rain down a few very hard punches to both the body and jaw of Karl. But Karl is defending well, keeping Nakamura from doing any significant damage.

Weird Karl gets a yellow card for being passive on the bottom, and a stand-up. I like the yellow card system, which personalizing inactive fighters. Karl gets a few good knees off in the last 90 seconds of the fight, the scoring will be in the favour of Nakamura due to controlling the action and being aggressive on the ground.

The last 5 minute round starts with Karl trying to connect with  some fancy flying knees but is not close to hitting Nakamura. The fight ends up on the ground with Nakamura in controll. Another yellow card don’t really know who got the yellow card, apparently they have one yellow card each, which equals a 10% purse penalty. Nakamura will probably get the decision, if nothing very weird happens. Like we saw in the latest WEC show…

Nakamura wins a unanimous decision in the lacklustre fight.

Shavelo comments in this fight, I do hate this guy he tries to be funny and witty but just comes of as jerk.

  • He spent more time on his back than my ex girlfriend!
  • He has to careful he don’t do an Arlovski (about sloppy flying knees)

Mitsuhiro Ishida (18-6-1) vs. Daiki ”DJ.taiki” Hata (11-6-3)

“DJ” is the first fighter to the ring, I really like his Japanese walk-in music. Mitsuhiro has a good walkin song as well, Coldplay! Mitsuhiro the eternal warrior, the take down dynamo so I guess he will try and wear “DJ” out with take downs and apply some GnP. Ishida wants to touch gloves but “Dj” comes out kicking, and gets taken down by the dynamo.

Shavello makes a comment that is in real bad taste about Ishida can just stay in top position and smudder his opponent like a BP oil spill…This is why I hate this guy…

Ishida gets side control and tries for a far-side arm triangle, but cant look it up. Ishida transits into a crucifix and then into an arm-bar but “DJ” can escape and get back to his feet. Ishida takes a few kicks while trying to set up a take down, before he gets the fight to the ground again. After the first 6 minutes its been all Ishida, more take downs and two submission attempts and the stand up has been even so Ishida has this match won so far.

The commentators are talking about that the Dream fighters havent been close to winning any inter-promotional match ups with Strikeforce, this just conferees that the Asian MMA fighters are not up to US standard. If they cant match the Strikeforce fighters which are a far cry from the UFC fighters they Asian fighters need to step up their training and how they approach the fights to be able to succeed in the states.

The first round was won by Ishida, but there is still the second 5 minute round left.

Ishida scores a take down immediately, and that probably sealed the deal in this fight. At the 90 second mark “DJ” scores a few hard punches and Ishida is in trouble but gets taken down, “DJ” keeps open hand punching the busted cauliflower ear from the bottom. Ishida have probably won this fight, just waiting for the decision now, Ishida takes it all on the scorecards.

The third fight of the evening, is the loop sided match between
Michihiro Omigawa (10-8-1) vs. Young Sam Jung (0-2)

Omigawa dominates the first 4 minutes of the fight without managing to finish the tomato can. Young tries to get a arm bar on Omigawa, but he escapes easily. Omigawa need to win this fight, and in devastating fashion to live up to all the hype. But so far it hasnt been that exiting, until the nasty submission. Omigawa cranked on the neck of Young and forced the tap out, I think that Young might have rally hurt his neck in this fight.

Omigawa is taking Japanese MMA back, which as I mentioned before is in a state of panic at the moment.

Melvin Manhoef (24-7-1) vs. Tatsuya Mizuno (7-5)

This could be a barn burner of a fight, I like Manhof and think he will be able to knock out Mizuno. Melvin goes in swinging hard as usual and Mizuno tries to take it to the ground several times, but to no avail. Melvin has a good sprawl at least vs Mizuno, I’m not familiar with how good his wrestling actually is. Melvin manages to drop Mizuno with a few good shoots and then decides to go into Mizuno’s half guard, this is a big mistake in my opinion when he has Mizuno hurt. Mizuno tries for an arm bar but Melvin escapes, Melvin dont want to stand up, strange  and weird in my opinion. They get back to the feet and Mizuno immediately tries for a take down but is stuffed, a nice foot sweep and Melvin is taken down. Mizuno is in Melvins Full guard, moves into half guard maybe he is positioning himself for a arm bar.

Melvin  almost gets caught in a kimura, Melvin looks tired. Can he survive the last 5 minutes, Mizuno scores with a few knees to the head and avoids several  submissions. Nasty knees to the head of Melvin, and Mizuno rolls for an arm bar but Melvin reverses and ends up on top. Melvin rains down punches, but Mizuno survives. Melvin and then gets taken down into the corner and Mizuno puts together good GnP, Melvin is shielded by the ring padding. Mizuno tries for the kimura he has been looking for the entier round, and finally gets it and Melvin is forced to tap out, a major upset!!

So after two hours I need to tap out and cook dinner, I will watch the last three matches in a few hours. And if I’m feeling up to it I will continue to commentate the remaining matches right here.

UPDATE:

OK back to the action still have at least three more matches left on this card, so far I hasn’t produced as many epic matches as I had hoped but business is about to pick up as we get into the main match ups.

Gegard Mousasi (28-3-1) vs. Jake O’Brien (13-3)

Jake shoots in from the start, and never gets the take down. Mousasi sprawls and locks up a guillotine choke for the quickest win of the night so far. Mousasi didn’t even break a sweat, he actually looked bored after finishing O’Brien. There must have been something significantly wrong with O’Brien coming in at 226 lbs and not making the 205 lbs weight limit.

As this fight was so short there is a really long intermission in the show, showing highlights from the previous fights of the night.

Gesias ”JZ” Cavalcante (14-3-1) vs. Katsunori Kikuno (13-2-2)

Kikuno looks to be the slower of the two fighters, he hesitates a lot, but he does have a powerful leg kick. Cant really say im following this fight intensely…Have no idea who should be the winner in this fight as I didn’t actually watch it. JC took the split decision cant say I really care.

So now its time for the main event of the evening

Shinya Aoki (23-5) vs. Tatsuya Kawajiri (26-5-2)

Aoki are coming of a devastating loss to Gilbert Melendes in Strikeforce and need to show that he is deserving of the title in this title defence.

Aoki gets a nasty heel hook in the opening stanza of the first round, he holds on for a really long time cranking the foot of Kawajiri. They roll around for a bit, and when Aoki locks up the heel hook with both his arms, you could see the leg contorting and Kawajiri is forced to tap out. Kawajiri’s leg looks to be seriously hurt after being locked in the submission for a long time.

StarCraft II – Countdown!

On 2010/07/22, in Video games, by Umbrood

Got word that my copy of StarCraft II is soon on it’s way. Hopefully I will be able to get a lot of games on battle.net before I move, because I will not have a fast and inexpensive connection for quite a while. But I’m planning on saving the single player campaign for when I have moved so I can play without using up the precious quotas that will be plaguing me.

WEC 49

On 2010/07/22, in MMA, Sports, Tv, by Umbrood

Have been behind in my MMA watching this last few months but im planning on watching WEC 49 and Dream 15 this weekend. So lets dive into the WEC show.

Eddie Wineland vs. Will Campuzano

Not any fighters I know anything about, but hopefully it will be a fast pace all out war in the bantamweight division. The first round was a striking match, they both scored a few good shots. But Eddie caught Will’s leg and scored a knock-down in the last seconds of the round, taking the round 10-9 in my opinion.

The second round started the same as the first round back and forth striking without anybody connecting clean. Both mixing up strikes with leg kicks and none thinking about a take down yet. Wineland will take this round if nothing spectacular happens, as he is connecting more cleanly than Will. And at around 90 seconds Eddie lands a superman punch and follow up with a flurry of punches, cant finish Will but is real close. The fight continues and Will starts to fire back, but Eddie keeps rocking him and finish the fight with a viscous body punch.

Chris Horodecki vs. Danny Downes

My gut feeling is that Chris Horodescki will be able to walk away with the win in this one. Apparently Danny is a last minute replacement for an injured fighter. After the first take down Danny gets caught in a guillotine but manage to escape, but he never gets away from the cage. Horodescki keeps working along the cage and gets another take down, and takes Danny’s back securing a rear naked choke, but he gets rolled. Danny puts together a little offence before the end of the round, but he still lose the round 10-ö9 in the favour of Chris the home town favourite.

Second round Danny seams to be weakening under the barrage of Chris, but he is still trying to fight back. Chris scores with combiantions in the end of the round after grappling for the first part of the round. Chris won this round desisivly in a voring second round, hopefully this will end in the third round.

The third round starts of with Danny trying to end the fight with a flurry but get taken down for his troubles. Chris secures the rear naked choke on the ground, the third choke forces the tap out.

Josh Grispi vs. LC Davis

A good start to the first round, Josh favours the high kicks and leaving himself open  to counters. Josh drops his hands and sticks his chin out when throwing kicks. LC Davis scores a take down but Josh secures an guillotine and LC Davis goes to sleep! this was unexpected I thought that LC had the match where he wanted it but he made a mistake and paid for it.

Eric Koch vs. Bendy Casimir

Another couple of fighters I never heard of, but they look ready to do battle and there is soon time for the main event so this fight cant be that long.

Impressive preformance from Eric having a solid stand-up and on the ground he gets Bendy in a solid triangle and forces the tap out. Bendy was caught for a long time in the triangle but Eric countered well and keep the triangle locked in tight.

So far there has been good fights on this WEC card, evenly matched fighters putting on a clinic. The fighters are very technically and well rounded in the lower weight classes, which makes for enjoyable fights.

Marc Hominick vs. Yves Jabouin

Time for the co-main event of the evening, between two Canadians. Yves moving around very well but Marc gets off a few shots, and gets counter punched for his troubles. Yves gets clocked a few times, its hard to tell how much the shots hurt him, but either way he still throws fancy kicks and strikes from weird angels. Yves will have taken the round due to the amount of strikes and being more active throughout the entire round.

Round two, Yves gets tagged a few times in the opening. Marc’s overhand right lands over and over again, how long will Yves be able to take it. A thunderous left to the liver stuns Yves and Marc swarms all over him to finish the fight, Yves gets back standing but still takes a lot of punches. Yves is fighting back, Marc gets caught with a right and get put down, Yves in dominating position. OMG Yves get rolled and Marc gets a full mount, Yves covers up and Marc rain down blows, the ref steps in and stops the fight.

A very good fight, fight of the night so far. Wow there is many fight on this card, which equals fast pace action.

Karen Darabedyan vs. Will Kerr

Kerr storms out of the gates with a flurry of punches. Another fast finish, Kerr gets a nice armbar of his back. according to the commentators this was a big upset, Ill have to take their word for it.

The main event of the evening

Jamie Varner vs. Kamal Shalourus

The first round is action packed, Jamie has the edge in speed and technique but Kamal packs a lot of power. Varner connects with combinations and is able to avoid most of the big shots of Kamal in the first two minutes of the round. Varner had a good opurtunity to finish the fight in the first round but Kamal was able to recover quickly. A very intense first round both trading blows, showing that they both have chins. I have Varner winning the round 10-9 but it was really close.

The second round starts of with a inadvertent low blow from Kamal and then another more direct blow to the groin that cost Kamal a point. Varner looks hurt from the second blow, taking his time to recover from that shot to the nuts. Varner moving around but the leg kicks from Kamal has been taking away the explosiveness from Varner. Hopefully Varner can come out more recharged for the third round, both fighters may have broken hands after the first two rounds.

The third round starts of with another low blow from Kamal, can Varner recover from this one? Varner is really hurt, looks like he is going to throw up. Only jabs from Varner, and Kamal finally gets a take down, Varner does a good job of staying busy on the bottom and throwing a few elbows. Varner gets up to his feet again and hopefully Varner can ride the last seconds out and score a decision.

A great fight, Varner needs to ice those nuts after this fight. Yeah Varner have broken his right hand, never a good sign. This means he will be out for a long time.

WTF a draw, need to look into the judging but Cecil Peoples had it 28-28. The judge that scored the fight for Kamal must have been watching another fight! They need five judges for MMA fights to cut down on these bogus decisions… Apparently Varner broke his foot as well in this fight, he seems to get hurt a lot which is a shame as I like him as a fighter.

Computer Update!

On 2010/07/21, in Life, by Umbrood

So there is more wrong with my desktop than I first thought, so I need to get a cable for my power supply. And this mystery magical cable isn’t anywhere to be found in this town. So I have ordered it on-line and it arrived today, so after stuffing around with the desktop I found out that probably the entire power supply is actually fried, I will try some more last minute things tomorrow. If that doesn’t work I will try and use and older weaker model power supply if that doesn’t work I will just dismantle the machine for transport and back-up all the HDD to an external drive and sort out a new computer when I have moved.

Buying some more hardware

On 2010/07/14, in Life, by Umbrood

I’ve been looking into getting a few more HDD for when I move so I can take more of my pictures and other stuff with me. The prices for HDD have dropped significantly since I last bought computer parts, so I might get two 2TB HDD so its less things to ship. I need to go through all the random hardware that I have in my basement and see if I can build some functioning machines to leave with my mother, so that she has a computer that can be hooked up to her new TV and media system.

It would be great if she has a machine that she can use Skype with so we can talk cheaply and efficiently while I’m abroad.

So I started writing this yesterday but now things have changed, my main computer has blown out its processor-fan. It turned off several times during the evening and now the fan wont work at all. So I took it apart last night and found out that the fan had been fried and the paste had burned to the CPU.The fan is only a few years old but It probably have been working overtime to keep the CPU cool in this stupidly hot apartment, as It gets evening sun on the living room the temperatures will reach at least 27-28 degrees Celsius.

So I bought a new fan and some chemicals to sort out the CPU later tonight as its stupidly hot today and I want to be focused when I do this. The next computer I build will have water cooling or just passive cooling as I cant be bothered with replacing fans and that stuff anymore.

Just a small update, Wheels 2010.

On 2010/07/08, in Life, by Umbrood

Here are some pictures from this years Wheels in Umeå. It was a sunny and warm day, actually got a bit of a tan happening from being out in the sun. I will start using the gallery option in WordPress until I have decided if im going to pay for a bigger flickr account but probably not until I run out of space on this site, or if I decide to shut this down when I move.

I will start uploading more older pictures here as I have grown tired with Facebook and their substandard site, I rather host my own images than bothering with Facebook at the moment.

UPDATE: Added a few images to the Täfteåfestival post

Clash of the titans! – The main card

On 2010/07/03, in MMA, by Umbrood

So now on the the main card of the evening.

Brock Lesnar vs. Shane Carwin

This is a close fight with many interesting aspects, but the most important in my opinion is that they both are good wrestlers, Brock having the edge being Div I. And they being roughly the same size, so they cant bully the other guy around as much as they both have been able to do in their previous fights. These are the before Shane Carwin’s fight with Frank Mir, but that fight didn’t add many seconds to his time in the octagon.

Like I said before this will probably end in the first round, either from Shane catching Brock and putting him down. I’m not sure hoe strong Brock’s chin actually is, he caught a knee from Frank in their second fight but that’s probably as a hard a shoot he as taken. The other fights Brock has been in he never really faced anyone with KO power, Couture and Hearing don’t posses the power to put you to sleep. The other more likely outcome is Brock taking Shane down and holding him down and pounding him out, for a stoppage. Brock has probably evolved more of the two fighters, but you never know coming of this long lay-off and if he actually has switched to southpaw or not for this fight or if it was just talk.

Yoshihiro Akiyama vs. Chris Leben

Sexy wasn’t too sure if he would take the fight with Leben on short notice, but did so anyway. Sexy will be able to put Leben away without any problems, baring getting caught with a left hook. Leben only has the punchers chance in this fight in my opinion. Leben is probably somewhat banged up from the fight two weeks ago so the longer this fight drags on the better its for Yoshihiro.

Chris Lytle vs. Matt Brown

Brown isnt the favourite in this fight, Lytle will probably win this fight after three rounds on decision. Brown cant use his most potent weapon his ground and pound as Lytle is way to crafty on the ground. Brown don’t have the wrestling and take downs to keep the fight on the ground and establishing a top position. So Lytle by decision as he has a more evolved MMA game.

Krzysztof Soszynski vs. Stephan Bonnar

Hopefully this fight wont end on a referee mistake as their last fight. But anyhow the fight will be Krzysztof’s to lose as Bonner hasn’t a well-rounded MMA game and will be picked apart on the feet and lose a decision. Bonner is over matched in the UFC and maybe should ask to be let go and go to a lesser show, but that would probably not happen as he is still popular.
George Sotiropoulos vs. Kurt Pellegrino

Kurt’s ground game will be the big weakness in this fight, George is a wizard on the ground and will tap Kurt in the second round.

This post was a little rushed as I was busy watching the worldcup but anyhow, until next time!

Clash of the titans!

On 2010/07/02, in MMA, by Umbrood

So this weekend is the UFC 116 show and that is gonna be the clash of the titans fo’sure. Hopefully this match up between Brock and Shane will live up too half the hype, but unfortunately I predict a quick finish. So here is my predictions for the UFC 116 card, starting with the prelims

First the prelims for the blockbuster PPV

Brendan Schaub vs. Chris Tuchscherer

This should be nothing short of a tune up fight for Brendan Schaub since the loss to Roy Nelson, and the quick win at UFC: LIve Vera vs. Jones. Brendan has KO power and good striking, Chris only has his wrestling but I think that he wont even score a take down without eating a few punches on the way in. This fight will end in the first round by stoppage or KO in favour of Brendan Schaub.

Seth Petruzelli vs. Ricardo Romero

Seth the Kimbo-killer making his UFC comeback , this is another striker vs. grappler match up. I think that Seth’s striking will be the difference in this match, however if Romero can score take downs he will be able to impose his will and maybe light Seth up with some GnP. But this will probably go to a decision with Seth as the unanimous winner.

Kendall Grove vs. Goran Reljic

Kendall Grove hasn’t evolved into the top contender in the middleweight division everyone hoped for, his suspect chin letting him down on more than one occasion. Goran isn’t a top level fighter either, having sub par conditioning which has made him drop a few fights. Kendall the more technical striker and better on the ground, if Goran is winning this fight he needs to lure Kendall into a brawl and catch him. Kendall has been prone to being reckless standing up and getting caught before, but if Kendall keeps out of danger there is a god chance that Goran will gas and get stopped in the later rounds. I pick Kendall by TKO or Stoppage round three, but I will be cheering for Goran to KO him.

Dave Branch vs. Gerald Harris

Dave Branch a Gracie student, currently undefeated in MMA. So we know his ground game will be good, however Harris has dynamite in his hands and solid boxing. So the trouble is for Dave to get it to the ground and getting top position with out sustaining too much damage. And if Harris gets top position he will most likely end the fight via his powerful GnP, before Dave can escape or succeed with a submission.

Forrest Petz vs. Daniel Roberts

Don’t know much about this late addition to the fight card, but I have the feeling that Roberts will be wrestling all night to avoid the nasty striking from Petz. My prediction will be a unanimous decision win for Daniel Roberts, due to take downs and lay and pray.

Jon Madsen vs. Karlos Vemola

Madsen will take this fight by either an uneventful decision or GnP stoppage. Both fighters have a long way to go to be in the top level of the heavy weight in the UFC. Vemola a berserker fighter with out technique and sloppy defence will have trouble connecting with Madsen who is content with just defending a picking him apart looking for a fight ending take  down.

The main card will come in the next post, hopefully later today or early tomorrow.

The big bang!

On 2010/06/29, in Tv, by Umbrood

So after watching the second part of the Dr.Who finale story for this series, I see great things coming in the future. So we haven’t had Riversong explained but my initial thought about her is that she will kill the doctor, they have hinted that she killed a good man, a hero to many and that’s why she ended up in prison. The church-military guys said that the doctor didn’t want to know who she had killed, hinting that it would be the doctor.Another thing could be that she killed Omega, as he was described as a hero to many.

The main bad-guy of the next season will be OMEGA that’s my guess anyhow. All the clues leads me to believe that Omega will be back, first off the pandorac could bring him back as It brought back all the other things that got erased/killed when it reshaped the universe.

My other guess is that It could be Sutekh that is the bad guys in the Christmas episode. As The doctor where sporting a fez in the last episodes, and they where in a museum, and in the pyramids of Mars episode it had a Egyptian theme.  And the final scene in the Tardis when they where talking about an Egyptian god running wild on the Orient Express in space could just be a lead in to Omega being back. The voice controlling the Tardis is Omega and as he was responsible for the Time Lords being able to travel through time he knows all about the Tardis and Time Travel.
