So I choose to get  a Nokia 5800 for my new cellphone, and hopefully I will get it today. I ordered it from the online Collect@Store part of the Elgiganten website, a Nordic electronics gods retailer. I would save around 900:- from booking it online and then going down to the store to collect and pay for the phone, so that was a good deal. But the website is buggy as all hell, the site says that it should take around two hours for the order to be processed and sent to the store, so you can pick up the items. In reality it takes closer to 5-6 hours some time according to the people in the store that I talked too. After I paid for the phone and where on my way to collect it it turned out that the phone wasn’t in stock, and haven’t been for a long time…Still showed up on the website and was able to pay for it in store.

So hopefully it will arrive today and I’m going to get some free swag for all the trouble, hope the phone is worth it in the end.

UPDATE: The phone will arrive tomorrow @10 so no shiny new toys today.

I have at least five or six started blogs right now, some are harder to write than others apparently. And there is movie clips from different travels and events that need to be sorted out and edited, two dance nights and one karaoke night.

And on top of that I wanted to write a little piece about the CoC scenario Lighthouse and try and do a recap of sorts of yr events that transpired on that mist covered  island. Another related project is to start chronology the longest Rolemaster camping I have Game-mastered and retelling the trials and tribulation of the characters, though much of the information still remains missing I will set up and map part on the role-playing part of the site and the people can if they want partake in the discussions surrounding the project, this project has borrowed from many published campaigns and grew out of my idea of expanding on the world engulfing Lore that exists in Shadow World and adding some new and exiting twists to the story. Too bad I don’t socialise with the people that where involved with that campaign so much any more. But the small notes I still have left is a suitable starter point and will be enough to get a skeleton together and I will have to flesh out the details that I don’t remember.

The HBK blog post I find the hardest to write because it has been such a big part of my life for so long, and nothing will ever come close to the emotional level I feel watching HBK preform.

What kind of cellphone?

On 2010/05/24, in Life, Training, by Umbrood

So after looking into more cellphone things, I have narrowed my search to Nokia cellphones for the moment. The models I’m looking into are the X6 and the 5800 model.

The 5800 model has a weaker camera only 3.2 MP same as my old N73 which isn’t bad for a cell phone but not good either. I wanted the phones to have wlan which makes transferring files and syncing so much easier. My current cell phone is not at all good at cable syncing, I have to use a slow ass Bluetooth connection to get it to work properly. The N73 has a faulty cable connection which drops the connection all the freaking time.

The X6 has a 5Mp camera and also got a wlan, it has 16GB built in memory so there is a lot of room for my podcasts and training music. Which brings me to my other big selling point I want a phone that will actually get me out and exercise, in this case running. So the phone needs to have a GPS and I have been looking into the Nokia sports tracking software and thinks its going to be great to keep track of my progress with that. Both these phones support the sports tracking software so they are even at that point, but the X6 has the better camera for taking pictures along the routes. I haven’t actually felt how the phones feel, the shape and weight of them so that is something I will have to check out before making up my mind on which phone if any to get. I haven’t really decided if this is the right time to buy a new phone, or if I should wait until I have finished moving or not.

Here are some of the YouTube clips I looked into while choosing the phone

[

I’m leaning more towards the 5800 as its cheaper than the X6 and it comes with 8GB and can be upgraded to 16GB so that should last me a good while, as I’m currently using about 2GB but that means having to delete stuff every 2 days or so and that’s a real ball ache with the faulty cable on my N73

Getting a new cell phone or…

On 2010/05/20, in Life, by Umbrood

just a better mp3 player. I’m still a few years behind on the whole cell phone and mp3 front never owned a ipod or a touchscreen cell phone. My old Nokia N73 have been crap for the last year or so, I have changed the battery once before and I’m not keen at buying a new on for an old phone. So what kind of cellphone am I looking for, don’t really know, It must be able to preform as a music player hopefully with some kind of cable-remote access. I haven’t switched to Bluetooth headsets yet, and I recently bought a new pair of headphones that would stay attached even while training, so I’m not looking to replace those just yet. So the cell phones I’m looking at are the Nokia 6700 Classic

The thing im not fond of is that it doesn’t support a remote-headset thingy, but the price is right and the phone is quite small and thats always a bonus.

The other phone I have been looking at is the HTC Hero, the brown one is a whole lot cheaper than the other colors so that could be affordable.

But I’m not sure if I rather get an Iphone later on instead of getting an HTC now, not sure if the Blizzard authenticator is available for the Android system yet and that would be a plus. As for an mp3 player that’s up in the air as I don’t know what kind too get, probably just get a cheap one so I don’t have too worry too much.

Now its time for some Starcraft II before the BETA goes down in a week, need to get a few more games done so I can handle being without the BETA for a month.

Weekend recap

On 2010/05/02, in Life, by Umbrood

Friday was a night out at club GreyScale and it was a fun time with good friends, I had hoped for some more dancing but the music wasn’t to my liking for most of the night. So I stayed seated for most of the night and partook in conversations on varied topics, when the music wasn’t too loud. It was actually fun watching people and see that nothing actually changes, almost the same people wearing the same clothes, having the same problems.  I totally forgot that I had the Flip with me to the club otherwise I would have a few movies to show for it, I f you don’t have images it didn’t happen!

Saturday was a  day or relaxation, good food and crappy horror movies topped by boardgames with friends. Boardgames when feeling tired is  actually awesome. I managed a record setting low score in race for the galaxy, a whooping 18 points. I feel rusty for not playing for a few months. The game of Power Grid was equally bad, finishing last but having a good time anyhow. This brings us to this Sunday, more good food and then its off to a friends house for a few hours of watching MMA and having a few beers. But now I need to manage to get a few games of StarCraft II before heading out, and if I had the energy I would be at the weekly sauna session, but not tonight.

Hopefully I’m not coming down with the flue

On 2010/04/21, in Life, by Umbrood

My neck is all jacked-up at the moment, hopefully it isnt the flue. Could be from sitting in front of the computer for several hours each day and typing and not making it to the gym at all. So stuff is falling into pieces as the courier just delivered a bunch of important documents, including my updated passport, even though they where delayed due to the volcanic eruption. But more on that later when Ill do a write-up on the trials and tribulations of of sorting out all the paperwork, yes i know I have been saying that for the longest time but I need to finish up some other things before I can get to that.

So this week I have been selling more belongings and due to events out of my control I might be spending the entire weekend moving furniture and renovating , mostly painting which Isn’t what I had planned on doing, but I would be swell if it gets done. So this Friday I will be doing the prep work and buying the paint on Saturday and painting Saturday and Sunday. I need to read up on some painting tips as I’m going to paint a celling for the first time, hopefully my neck and shoulders will have recuperated by then, otherwise its anti-inflammatory and a shot of Whiskey! (JK)

And I just remembered that there will be people coming on Friday to look at some furniture, its gonna be a incredibly hecktic weekend thats for sure.

A good weekend and a crappy UFC

On 2010/04/19, in Life, MMA, Sports, YouTube, by Umbrood

Had a very good and relaxing weekend, first dinner with some good friends and a bit of alcohol. Its good to get out of the house and relax for a bit so not to get bogged down with all the other everyday things that need to be sorted. But back to this Saturdays events good conversation and excellent food makes me happy even though the weather has been shitty the last week. Got home at a sensible time and fell asleep immediately and got a good nights sleep, the following day there was an enter day of UFC planned as we got together with some other friends to watch last weeks UFC 112 and some of the eleventh season of the ultimate fighter, the company and conversations where good too bad I cant say the same for the PPV but I feel that the crappy UFC will gets its own post if I ever get the time to sort through my backlog of started blogposts and other web related projects I have started.

So that was my weekend, and hopefully during the next week I will have some time to get a few games of RftG going or some other boardgames, as I haven’t gotten around to play in a really long time. I just realised that maybe the new expansions for RftG might have gotten a release date so that is something I need to look into.

So I leave you with some Rush as I’m currently listening to Rush on spotify as I got reminded of the great Canadian rock band while listening to the great Canadian Wrestling and MMA radio show Live Audio Wrestling.

Incredibly slow forum code

On 2010/03/21, in Life, School, by Umbrood

After using a stats program to see if more than two people actually read the blog I found that the code slowed the forum access to a ridiculous slow pace so I decided to discontinue using I, as I really don’t care if people read it or not.  And yes! at some points more than two people actually visit the blog, and actually clicked the links that I have put up.

Its actually awesome weather outside today and its a shame that I cant be outside doing things, but need to do boring and tedious inside things. I still haven’t gotten the JAVA code to work properly but the SQL things was correct and should have worked but the database where corrupt and didn’t work when trying to apply the code. I wish that they would update and maintain the databases so that you actually could do the assignments properly and not get stuck for days with correct code.

Just a quick little post

On 2010/03/18, in Life, MMA, Wrestling, by Umbrood

This is only going to be a quick little post to just get some things down on digital paper before it start with all the work that needs to be finished this week. Haven’t had time to write anything significant for a while now, I have several things half finished and I intend to finish up those things before I start something new at least.

Spent the weekend at my Dads in Vilhelmina and there will be pictures put up from that trip and a few movies, when I have time to edit them together. I still have lots of unfinished video footage from last year that Im planning on making available online at YouTube, think I have over 4gb of raw footage that needs editing. There are some nice winter landscape shots looking out over the seven parishes, and you could see for miles and miles and even some Elk.

I’m looking forward to this years WrestleMania but I have only gotten as far as two weeks out from Breaking Point last year so I have lots of storyline to catch-up with before its time for Michaels vs. Taker II and all the other exiting matches, this will probably be the best WrestleMania I have seen in a long time.

I have tried to watch all the MMA PPV’s but I have been losing interest as I haven’t been able to keep up with story lines and don’t know the back story of the fighters. But I was intrigued by the rumours that Tito got kicked from the TuF#11 show, but it turned out to be a case of the flue which saw him hospitalized, so no extra drama there. And Randy Couture has gotten himself a new and maybe first tattoo, which don’t look too bad. Apparently the Latin reads “Iron sharpens Iron”

Harpers Island and some tagging changes

On 2010/01/26, in Review, by Umbrood

Ill start of with the tagging issues as they aren’t that interesting, but Ill write about it anyway. I’m going to start adding more tags to my posts and do some META tagging changes in the near future. The reason for this is to help me and you selected few readers to find thing that might interest you in my blogging. As I use this blog as my one and only blog I need to start putting more effort into the tags to make it easier to read and sort.

Due to friends recommending a show called Harper’s Island I have started to watch it and have so far seen the first three episodes and here are my initial thoughts about it. And as customary with these reviews or what you might call them there will be spoilers so if you haven’t seen it don’t read this.

The intro to the first episode was totally awesome and had me hooked from the start and wanting more. Given I like serial killer shows and movies and lighthouses and islands always makes for creepy and scary settings this show delivers. The big tree with the hanging bodies where a nice and scary image, this made me think about the two Swedish murder mysteries series called Graven and Morden. Then the actual show starts and I’m sorely disappointed with the whole boat scene it felt forced and not appealing, and the stereotypical characters where one dimensional, but the premise and overall feel of the show kept me watching.  There is a plethora of C and D grade celebs/actors people you recognize but cant really place, or at least I had problems with it. Speaking of stereotypical characters ofc. the biggest douche in the first episodes is called Hunter that name screams douchbag, I just thought that funny.

Some questions I had when watching the first few episodes:

  • Who left the candles on the Wakefield grave? why didn’t the characters find it odd, as the killer wasn’t even allowed to be buried on hallow ground?
  • Why didn’t the Sheriff kill Wakefield was it his brother or something lame like that?

OK high level spoiler alert coming up, concerning people being killed. I find it sad that the emo/goth girl bought the farm in the second episode. I actually thought that character could have been fun to have around, given her high level paranoia and emo-ness, they could have killed the emo/goth brother instead as I didn’t find him that interesting. Why did they kill the priest, to stop the wedding or some other reason. I get the feeling that you could possibly have two killers on the island and possibly not all the murders are connected. Another thing that bothered me where the traps all over the island, they said that there where rumours of traps on the island but none until now have come across them. And now all of a sudden people run into traps all over the place.

Even though I wanted the emo-chick to live here death scene was very good, I like the touch with the eyes and the statue with the red gems for eyes and the picture the sheriff found. there are some really good and creepy scenes that are well directed and set up but then we cut back to the 90210 style acting and plots. I know probably that’s the point having big differences between things but I almost feels like they have two different directors or writer for the different style scenes.

OK that’s my initial thoughts about the first three episodes, I will do more of these style posts in the future as its fun to write them.
