So I choose to get  a Nokia 5800 for my new cellphone, and hopefully I will get it today. I ordered it from the online Collect@Store part of the Elgiganten website, a Nordic electronics gods retailer. I would save around 900:- from booking it online and then going down to the store to collect and pay for the phone, so that was a good deal. But the website is buggy as all hell, the site says that it should take around two hours for the order to be processed and sent to the store, so you can pick up the items. In reality it takes closer to 5-6 hours some time according to the people in the store that I talked too. After I paid for the phone and where on my way to collect it it turned out that the phone wasn’t in stock, and haven’t been for a long time…Still showed up on the website and was able to pay for it in store.

So hopefully it will arrive today and I’m going to get some free swag for all the trouble, hope the phone is worth it in the end.

UPDATE: The phone will arrive tomorrow @10 so no shiny new toys today.

Strikeforce Heavy Artillery

On 2010/05/17, in MMA, Review, Sports, by Umbrood

So I’m going to spend a a little time watching the Strikeforce – Heavy Artillery PPV and might write a few lines on the fights and my thoughts on the show, this is a make or break it show in my opinion after the last PPV that ended in brawl and did terrible ratings. I’m looking forward to the Arlowski and Brett fights on the card, hopefully Brett Rogers can secure the championship as he is one of Strikeforce main draws.

Antwain Britt vs. Rafael Feijao

A entertaining fight and a pretty convincing win for Rafael Feijano in the first round, I agree with the commentators that the corner and camp has had a big impact on Rafaels stand up and overall striking game.

Kevin Randleman vs. Roger Gracie

A awkward first round, that Roger Gracie won 10-9, and Kevin looked tired towards the end of the round. Roger used his significant reach advantage through-out the entire round, not letting Kevin get of any significant offence. The second round Roger punished Kevin that looked very out of place and getting tagged a lot. And I do hate Shamrock on commentary as he is too biased to certain fighters…Kevin got caught with a bad knee and he looked totally gassed and barely survived on the ground. But when he got Kevin ‘s back and secured the body-lock with two minutes left the fight was basically over, Kevin had to tapout or blackout.

Jacare Souza vs. Joe Villasenor

This middleweight bout might be a pretty good fight, two good fighters a classic striker versus grappler match-up. Jacare almost got caught after he slipped throwing a overhand right with evil intentions. Jacare gets a good take down and ends up in top position, and transfers into a full mount, raining down punches. A high position lets Joe get back up but still cant get into striking range, Jacare gets another take down and continues with some good ground and pound. Jacare dominated the fight on the ground and with the standup, winning the round comfortable 10-9. Jacare keep out-striking the striker and getting the take-downs, but Joe keeps fighting back and connecting with a few combos as Jacare looks to be tiring. But still Jacare won the round with his takedowns and striking, but can he keep this up in the third round or will he be too tired. Jacare is way more tired than Joe and he might be in trouble, two consecutive takedown attempts is stopped but the third one is successful and might have sealed the fight in the favour of Jacare. A late standup by the referee but it ended with a takedown, but Jacare almost got caught with a flying knee as he took him down for the final time. I don’t agree with the commentators saying it was a close fight, I feel like Jacare dominated the fight from bell to bell. Jacare won the fight, two of the judges scored the fight 29-28 so they obviusly thought it was a closer fight than what I scored.

Andrei Arlovski vs. Antonio Silva

This should be a exiting fight as Antonio Silva isnt a pushover and Arlovski desperetly needs a win. Arlovski have been taken time of since his back to back losses and have reinvented himself lets see if that’s the case here or if he is a force to be reckon with again. Props to Mauro for getting a Rick Flair comment when Andrei made his ring entrance. Silvas reach advantage is allowing him to get the better of Arlovski, Andrei is doing his usual thing moving in straight lines that is going to end with him getting K.O:ed in my opinion. Silva has lots of power and Andrei having trouble absorbing punches in the past. Several big shots land on Arlovskis stout beard as Mauro put it. Silva manhandles Arlovski against the cage and manage to take him down, Arlovski haven’t been able to do anything to treaten Silva. The round is a convincing 10-9 for Silva, if this continues Arlovski wont last a second round.

Second round Silva keeps punishing Arlovski, utilizing the clinching against the cage sapping the energy from Arlovski. Big John separates them several times for not doing anything. Arlovski tries switching stance but Silva compensates and keeps punching Andrei in the last minuets of the round. This round is also a convincing 10-9 for Silva, Andrei did make it out of the second round but only due to a lack of action and energy from Silva.

Shamrock annoys me to no end in this fight.

The third round starts out slow, but Andrei needs to go for a KO or lose the decision. Silva dominates the round and should win the unanimous decision. Silva won the fight handedly, this could be one of Arlovski last fights on the big stage as I don’t think he has the drive and skills to compete any more.

I have to stop here and make dinner but ill return later to watch the main event.

UPDATE: Now I watched the last fight and Alistair destroyed Brett Rogers, which I thought would happen. So Brett was in way over his head in this fight and got picked apart throughout the entire thing. So lets talk Fedor, Alistair and Vitor Belfort are the only real treats to Fedor, currently. But in MMA anything can happen so you never know.

Harper’s Island – Episode 7, 8 & 9

On 2010/04/12, in Review, Tv, by Umbrood

Episode 7

Episode 8

Episode 9

So exactly how into this the the Sheriff, was he removed from the hospital by himself just walked out of there or did he have help? He took the high explosive container with him so god knows what he is planning to blow-up. My guess is using it to tie to one of his victims and try and lure someone to do something stupid ala SAW.

Finding the kid and the remains of the other missing girl and being forced down in to the lair of the sheriff was a pretty tense moment in the show I must give them. So now we know how the killer has been moving around the house undetected all this time and listening to peoples conversations. He has massive amounts of trap making skills and engineering, electrical skills and mad stalking and hunting skills to boot.

I had started to suspect that Ashley Mills where in fact Wakefield daughter and after that was revealed in the journal, it seamed a good match barring any red hearings. I also think that the little girl Madison also could be a Wakefielder, her mother could have had an affair with Wakefield prior to becoming a trophy wife or something similar.

I have finished the show and as I watched all the episodes in rapid succession I didn’t have time top write stuff down so this is the last post in the series unless I get really bored and re-watch the series and finish the last few episodes.

My uneventful Easter weekend

On 2010/04/05, in Life, Review, by Umbrood

Here is a little update on my current situation, I’ve been sick all Easter weekend and haven’t been able to do anything useful but I have been able to watch a whole bunch of crappy movies and run a few instances in WoW. Among the good things I watched was the start of series Five of Dr.Who and hopefully it will live up to the hype as Wrestle Mania this year didn’t live up to the tremendous build, but Ill get into Wrestling a bit later.

So here are my thoughts on the films I have watched during the Easter holiday in no particular order, I might have forgotten one or two films.

Perkins 14

The story sounded good, but the end result was far from good! This was a Zombie flick without Zombies, the main villains where in fact victims that had been kidnapped and turned into psycho-cannibal-zombies with the help of isolation and drugs, mainly PCP. The movie started out decent enough looked like a 70′s Italian horror movie, like Susperia, so I actually thought it had potential. It then degenerated into the psychological thriller where we saw the decline of the main characters sanity, well he didn’t have much sanity to begin with. The main plot centred around the main character trying to rescue his son that got abducted ten years ago, and the main character has started to doubt himself if he actually did enough to rescue/find his sin.

Twilight New Moon

Never got into the Twilight craze and I thought the first movie was rubbish and a waste of time. The second was slightly better than the first one on a few points but overall it lacked a compelling story and it was told in such a way that you blatantly knew that you have missed out on several story elements. This was very obvious with the entire wolf pack storyline, and this was despite the movie being over two hours long, the directors cut is probably going to be a lot longer. I was surprised that the female lead, don’t remember what she was called was geniunly surprised that Jacob and the others where Werewolf’s! Even when they saved her from the deadlock vampire she didn’t figure it out! Is she the mayor of thick-town?

Cant be bothered writing any more just yet there is more posts on the way if i can finish them this week. I have a few more movies to write small reviews and random thoughts about. And there is a larger post about WrestleMania and the retirement of HBK in the works, I have a fun time remembering things that I have forgotten on the topic of why I like wrestling and what I remember from my childhood and things i will miss now that my all time favourite wrestler has retired, I even shed a tear or two but more on that in a later post now I’m off to Azeroth and run a few random dungeons just to relax.

So I finally got around to watch Avatar and did so in 3D which I think was a wise choice. So I didn’t go into the cinema with high expectations, I kind of knew what to expect going in. The movie wasn’t going to be a riveting storytelling masterpiece and the plot would be childish and heavy-handed and that’s exactly what I got. The story has been ridiculed and dissected in length so I can’t be bothered with it in this post.

So the effects where great and probably the best that has been seen on the big screen so far, but the 3D took a while to get used too. The pictures where blurry at the edges and there were so instances when they used shaky cam effects giving you POV. This had me worried as I have trouble from shaky cam effects and similar effects they make me motion sick and I have walked out of movie theatres before when It became too much for me too handle.

The story was very predictable and all in all well-told, no obvious storytelling mistakes. The effects where good probably the best I have seen on the big screen. I’m curious to see where the reinvented 3D will go from here, as most of the new movies will be in 3D from now on. And I have read about the new computer monitors and TV’s that will use the new 3D technology for home use, but they are very expensive but are predicted to drop rapidly in price towards the end of the year.

So I give the movie a 3 out of 5 rating or at 7 out of 10, this due to it was a well told story and not many obvious mistakes. So this blog post I stared it 3 weeks ago but anyhow here it is just to finish up my drafts.

My next project is to do a little write-up on the scenario “Ghost Light” that I ran last Friday and finished it in one sitting, even though I dragged it out a little, could probably have finished it a bit earlier.

I got into the closed BETA about two weeks ago but haven’t gotten around to play that much, so my first impressions about the game. The graphics are good and there are lots of details on every model, the lighting effects are great and they adds a lot of realism to the game. I was daunted by the amount of glare, smoke and debris that where flying all around.

First I have only tried one map, the only map I think that’s available at the moment. I haven’t played the other Bad Company game and the last Battlefield series game I played was the 2142 one and before that I played Battlefield 2 for a long time. But I got away from that while playing World of Warcraft and other MMO’s for a few years but I don’t have the energy to put down the amount of hours that’s needed to actually be somewhat competitive and stay active within a guild, so I have not been playing much computer games the last couple of years.

Only fours classes this time Assault, Medic, Engineer and Recon they are pretty self-explanatory and if you have been playing these kinds of FPS before you know what you get. There are lost of unlocks and ways to customize your class, which is good, and you get points that counts towards each class unlocks individually. Even the vehicles have their own unlocks which is new to me at least, so if you camp tanks for entire games you don’t get all the assault unlocks which is a nice feature in my opinion. You also have a general ranking that gives you generic weapon unlocks that will be available to all the classes.

There is a major Recon overload happening on the BETA servers, and lots of complaints and trolling on the forums. I tried playing Recon after playing a few games as Assault, so my impressions after playing Recon. The sniping is harder in this game than I’m used to in the earlier games. You cant go prone in this game so you have much more scope movement while trying to get the head-shot in. The guns you start out with in this game as Recon isnt to powerful and its bolt action so you only have one shot than you need to reload. So with me being a crappy shot and the guns being weak equals not many kills. So I’m slowly working my way up to get the .50 Sniper rifle unlocked and some better scopes so maybe just maybe I can get one shot one kill. But I have heard that its really difficult getting a clean kill, because of the difficulty aiming on the PC and the amount of damage each shot does compared to the overall health of the enemy soldiers.

More about the destroyable terrain (spoiler: Which I love) and my though on the other classes in the game at a later time.

“Time to light these m*therf*ckers up!”

Harper’s Island – Episode 6

On 2010/01/30, in Review, by Umbrood

OK this episode was a good episode as they got things accomplished, got some new facts and lost some dead weight from the island. Some of my favourite moments of the show was the scenes where the ring showed up at the bar and the hill-billy had proposed to his girlfriend and the English doctor wanted it back.

Other things they got done this episode where finding the pieces of uncle Marty, not much to say other than the emo brother was behaving more stupidly than normal. Don’t get the deal with him trying to get everyone to suspect him of killing all the people, he goes out of his way to be suspicious and killeresk, see I invented a new word.

Bringing the people to the attic and showing them the evidence of the obsessed father/sheriff thinking that Wakefield is still alive and well.

Ok they dug up the grave of the murderer Wakefield and found a skeleton, I don’t believe that this was the body of the real killer. I still think they are trying to swerve us viewers. I hope to good this don’t turn into heroes or pro-wrestling where they swerve just for the sake of swerving.

Emo brother knows the burnt redneck guy that had his dog killed by the now decided father of the bride, I like not remembering the names of the characters and making up little names for them.

That’s all for this time, check back with you all later.

More Harpers Island, episode four and five.

On 2010/01/26, in Review, by Umbrood

Ok the fourth episode was a bore for the most part, they found Hunters body but couldn’t identify him took uncle Marty’s money. One of the guys shot himself and died while trying to hid the money. I wont go into that in detail because I didn’t like that story arch at all, the fat bumbling-but-likable character seemed to be taken from Lost, not my favourite character he will probably die in a few episodes as they need to milk the story arch they set up first. Him being sad and paranoid because he took the money and hid the body of the english guy out in the woods.

There is the psychic little girl who is all strange and somber, I hope to good that they aren’t going with poltergeists and ghosts but I have a sick feeling that’s where they are headed…I just hope the Winchesters show up and kill all the Supernatural things as Bobby is undercover as the main girls father and Sheriff of the town. jokes aside they better not go the supernatural ghost route that would so spoil the mood and setting for the show.

On to the fifth episode I predict that the goth brother will die as he has connected with the little girl. Other than that I have no real clue who will die maybe the old lady that the main girls high school love interest have been helping and driving around the island. This is probably the logical route as the killer wants to single out the main girl and he already killed the emo-girl as she was connecting with her long lost friend, Abby Mills was her name couldn’t remember it before.

I like it that the characters ignore the people missing and dead, the missing people they just leave messengers on their cellphones. They just assume that they gone home or hooked up with some girl/boy they are on a freaking island…

Now they start to miss the reverend as they need to sort out the rehearsal dinner for the wedding.  BTW I’m writing this as I watch the episode so these are my thoughts as events unfold.

Cool a pagan sacrifice on the altar in the church, so no one have been in to the church for days. And back in the woods cue the inbreed rednecks with killer dogs, humming dueling banjos to myself. I’m starting to think that the redneck will kill the father of the bride because he killed his dog, or something lame as that. Why did the redneck leave the dog there and not stay himself, just stupid writing.

OK so there is lots of Wakefield’s running around killing people, so that’s their plan if the series gets a second or third season as they cant keep killing the wedding guests for too much longer.

OK so I was wrong the father of the bride got it in the church with a shovel. They found the reverent dead and dismembered, so now they know for sure that there is a killer on the island. There where some scenes earlier in the episode with the little kid talking about her friends and such they are so going with the I see dead people gimmick, I only see stupid people. OK that was the fourth and fifth episode of Harper’s Island more episodes will follow.

Harpers Island and some tagging changes

On 2010/01/26, in Review, by Umbrood

Ill start of with the tagging issues as they aren’t that interesting, but Ill write about it anyway. I’m going to start adding more tags to my posts and do some META tagging changes in the near future. The reason for this is to help me and you selected few readers to find thing that might interest you in my blogging. As I use this blog as my one and only blog I need to start putting more effort into the tags to make it easier to read and sort.

Due to friends recommending a show called Harper’s Island I have started to watch it and have so far seen the first three episodes and here are my initial thoughts about it. And as customary with these reviews or what you might call them there will be spoilers so if you haven’t seen it don’t read this.

The intro to the first episode was totally awesome and had me hooked from the start and wanting more. Given I like serial killer shows and movies and lighthouses and islands always makes for creepy and scary settings this show delivers. The big tree with the hanging bodies where a nice and scary image, this made me think about the two Swedish murder mysteries series called Graven and Morden. Then the actual show starts and I’m sorely disappointed with the whole boat scene it felt forced and not appealing, and the stereotypical characters where one dimensional, but the premise and overall feel of the show kept me watching.  There is a plethora of C and D grade celebs/actors people you recognize but cant really place, or at least I had problems with it. Speaking of stereotypical characters ofc. the biggest douche in the first episodes is called Hunter that name screams douchbag, I just thought that funny.

Some questions I had when watching the first few episodes:

  • Who left the candles on the Wakefield grave? why didn’t the characters find it odd, as the killer wasn’t even allowed to be buried on hallow ground?
  • Why didn’t the Sheriff kill Wakefield was it his brother or something lame like that?

OK high level spoiler alert coming up, concerning people being killed. I find it sad that the emo/goth girl bought the farm in the second episode. I actually thought that character could have been fun to have around, given her high level paranoia and emo-ness, they could have killed the emo/goth brother instead as I didn’t find him that interesting. Why did they kill the priest, to stop the wedding or some other reason. I get the feeling that you could possibly have two killers on the island and possibly not all the murders are connected. Another thing that bothered me where the traps all over the island, they said that there where rumours of traps on the island but none until now have come across them. And now all of a sudden people run into traps all over the place.

Even though I wanted the emo-chick to live here death scene was very good, I like the touch with the eyes and the statue with the red gems for eyes and the picture the sheriff found. there are some really good and creepy scenes that are well directed and set up but then we cut back to the 90210 style acting and plots. I know probably that’s the point having big differences between things but I almost feels like they have two different directors or writer for the different style scenes.

OK that’s my initial thoughts about the first three episodes, I will do more of these style posts in the future as its fun to write them.

So last month I watched a few films that was particularly sad and depressing, and I’m going to recap them very briefly here. I have lots of other blog posts that I have started but never finished, I recently remembered that I started a end of year post last year but never finished it. It was about how two years ago many of my “heroes” fell and I’m planning on concluding that post and maybe do a recap of the last decade from my perspective dealing mainly with MMA and Professional wrestling and how the last decade have changed the landscape. I know that many of the blogs and podcast I follow have done the same thing and I’m probably going to rehash some of the same things that they have to say.

Some other things I’m planning on to have written before the weekend is a post on the NFL playoffs and my summary of my picks for the regular season. I also have a little post on why I follow the Dallas Cowboys that I’m going to post when I’m finished writing it. Some other things I have started to write but never gotten around to finish are a short rant on the perception of weight in MMA and professional wrestling, fitting for after the Christmas holidays.

Well I rambled for long enough now on to the movies I watched. Remember if you haven’t seen any of these movies there might be spoilers, so read at your own risk.

The Reader

Here is a recap from imdb about this movie

Post-WWII Germany: Nearly a decade after his affair with an older woman came to a mysterious end, law student Michael Berg re-encounters his former lover as she defends herself in a war-crime trial.

As I never read summaries of movies before I watch them not to spoil anything, I had no idea what I was in for. I thought It was a good movie and the story and feel of the movie felt genuine and well played out. The actors didn’t over dramatise and try and sugar coat much of the general plot in this film which was good. There where many points in which the audience where forced to draw there own conclusions about the characters motives. You got the feeling early on in the story where it all was heading, but as I hadn’t read the synopsis of the film I had know idea about the major plot-point which probably was obvious to most other viewers.

Have read a few comments on the film and many of those comments are about Kate Winslet and her boobs, *sigh* if that all you take away from the movie then I pity you.

I actually thought that they would reunite in the end, but i guess after the final talk she decided that she needed to atone for what she had done. I could go into the ending and buildup in more detail but that would spoil to much if you haven’t seen the movie and still read this far.

The End of Time Part II

I know I have written about this recently but I actually felt genuinely sad when watching the two parter as I knew that this was probably the last time I was going to see David Tennant as the Doctor barring the inevitable X amount of Doctors special, but Ill save that topic for another time.

The ending was really sad and fitting to repeat what I said in a previous post about this episode. When I watched the confidential episode I felt sadder in a way then actually watching the episode as the confidential was more drawn out as you didn’t have the story and other things to focus on. Just that this was the final shoots for David Tennant, I really liked how he didn’t tell people that in this scene I its the final time I sonic something and so forth. I really hope that David will be successful with his new projects, and I will buy the Hamlet DVD when Its available as Im sure he will be brilliant in that as well.

The Time Traveler’s wife

I decided to watch this film as it had to do with time.travell and hope that it would cheer me up, but I should have read the synopsis!

From imdb

A romantic drama about a Chicago librarian with a gene that causes him to involuntarily time travel, and the complications it creates for his marriage.

If you have read or watched these kinds of films before you wont be surprised in how it ends. But the story is told adequately and the actors do a good job nothing to complain about. The big upside of this movie was that its a timeless love story, pardon the pun and not focused on the scientific nature of time travel. It has some good family oriented problems that the time travel creates, not to spoil anything to much.

This is actually a book that I might read in the future as It seams to be quite good and well written from what I have read in other review of it.

Well that’s it for tonight cant be bothered writing any more, seeya on the flipside.
