Clash of the titans! – The main card

On 2010/07/03, in MMA, by Umbrood

So now on the the main card of the evening.

Brock Lesnar vs. Shane Carwin

This is a close fight with many interesting aspects, but the most important in my opinion is that they both are good wrestlers, Brock having the edge being Div I. And they being roughly the same size, so they cant bully the other guy around as much as they both have been able to do in their previous fights. These are the before Shane Carwin’s fight with Frank Mir, but that fight didn’t add many seconds to his time in the octagon.

Like I said before this will probably end in the first round, either from Shane catching Brock and putting him down. I’m not sure hoe strong Brock’s chin actually is, he caught a knee from Frank in their second fight but that’s probably as a hard a shoot he as taken. The other fights Brock has been in he never really faced anyone with KO power, Couture and Hearing don’t posses the power to put you to sleep. The other more likely outcome is Brock taking Shane down and holding him down and pounding him out, for a stoppage. Brock has probably evolved more of the two fighters, but you never know coming of this long lay-off and if he actually has switched to southpaw or not for this fight or if it was just talk.

Yoshihiro Akiyama vs. Chris Leben

Sexy wasn’t too sure if he would take the fight with Leben on short notice, but did so anyway. Sexy will be able to put Leben away without any problems, baring getting caught with a left hook. Leben only has the punchers chance in this fight in my opinion. Leben is probably somewhat banged up from the fight two weeks ago so the longer this fight drags on the better its for Yoshihiro.

Chris Lytle vs. Matt Brown

Brown isnt the favourite in this fight, Lytle will probably win this fight after three rounds on decision. Brown cant use his most potent weapon his ground and pound as Lytle is way to crafty on the ground. Brown don’t have the wrestling and take downs to keep the fight on the ground and establishing a top position. So Lytle by decision as he has a more evolved MMA game.

Krzysztof Soszynski vs. Stephan Bonnar

Hopefully this fight wont end on a referee mistake as their last fight. But anyhow the fight will be Krzysztof’s to lose as Bonner hasn’t a well-rounded MMA game and will be picked apart on the feet and lose a decision. Bonner is over matched in the UFC and maybe should ask to be let go and go to a lesser show, but that would probably not happen as he is still popular.
George Sotiropoulos vs. Kurt Pellegrino

Kurt’s ground game will be the big weakness in this fight, George is a wizard on the ground and will tap Kurt in the second round.

This post was a little rushed as I was busy watching the worldcup but anyhow, until next time!

Clash of the titans!

On 2010/07/02, in MMA, by Umbrood

So this weekend is the UFC 116 show and that is gonna be the clash of the titans fo’sure. Hopefully this match up between Brock and Shane will live up too half the hype, but unfortunately I predict a quick finish. So here is my predictions for the UFC 116 card, starting with the prelims

First the prelims for the blockbuster PPV

Brendan Schaub vs. Chris Tuchscherer

This should be nothing short of a tune up fight for Brendan Schaub since the loss to Roy Nelson, and the quick win at UFC: LIve Vera vs. Jones. Brendan has KO power and good striking, Chris only has his wrestling but I think that he wont even score a take down without eating a few punches on the way in. This fight will end in the first round by stoppage or KO in favour of Brendan Schaub.

Seth Petruzelli vs. Ricardo Romero

Seth the Kimbo-killer making his UFC comeback , this is another striker vs. grappler match up. I think that Seth’s striking will be the difference in this match, however if Romero can score take downs he will be able to impose his will and maybe light Seth up with some GnP. But this will probably go to a decision with Seth as the unanimous winner.

Kendall Grove vs. Goran Reljic

Kendall Grove hasn’t evolved into the top contender in the middleweight division everyone hoped for, his suspect chin letting him down on more than one occasion. Goran isn’t a top level fighter either, having sub par conditioning which has made him drop a few fights. Kendall the more technical striker and better on the ground, if Goran is winning this fight he needs to lure Kendall into a brawl and catch him. Kendall has been prone to being reckless standing up and getting caught before, but if Kendall keeps out of danger there is a god chance that Goran will gas and get stopped in the later rounds. I pick Kendall by TKO or Stoppage round three, but I will be cheering for Goran to KO him.

Dave Branch vs. Gerald Harris

Dave Branch a Gracie student, currently undefeated in MMA. So we know his ground game will be good, however Harris has dynamite in his hands and solid boxing. So the trouble is for Dave to get it to the ground and getting top position with out sustaining too much damage. And if Harris gets top position he will most likely end the fight via his powerful GnP, before Dave can escape or succeed with a submission.

Forrest Petz vs. Daniel Roberts

Don’t know much about this late addition to the fight card, but I have the feeling that Roberts will be wrestling all night to avoid the nasty striking from Petz. My prediction will be a unanimous decision win for Daniel Roberts, due to take downs and lay and pray.

Jon Madsen vs. Karlos Vemola

Madsen will take this fight by either an uneventful decision or GnP stoppage. Both fighters have a long way to go to be in the top level of the heavy weight in the UFC. Vemola a berserker fighter with out technique and sloppy defence will have trouble connecting with Madsen who is content with just defending a picking him apart looking for a fight ending take  down.

The main card will come in the next post, hopefully later today or early tomorrow.

Batista, Rampage and Vince

On 2010/05/31, in MMA, Wrestling, by Umbrood

So Batista has “left” the WWE to try and get his movie carer rolling or if you believe the latest rumours he wants to compete in MMA, this is a ridiculous dumb idea in my humble opinion. But if that’s what Batista wants to do before going back into pro-wrestling that’s his business It will surely be entertaining if nothing else. Maybe a Kurt Angle vs. Batista MMA bout or something along those lines, if Kurt would be able to get a license, with a broking freeking neck.

Its going to be interesting having Rampage on Raw, does Vince now that Rampage had a huge PPV fight this weekend for the UFC that’s been beating the WWE in the PPV buys for a long time now? I will post a few thoughts on the UFC PPV this weekend when I have gotten around to hand in my thesis for the millionth time and hopefully get it past the review board. I actually think that the UFC PPV wil do around 900.000 to 925.000 buys that will be around 20-50k more than WrestleMania did this year, so Vince probably wont be happy.

UFC 113 – Predictions

On 2010/05/07, in MMA, by Umbrood

So I havent done this in a while so here are my predictions for UFC 113 maincard.

Light Heavyweight Championship bout:  Lyoto Machida (c) vs.  Mauricio Rua

I had Shogun winning the first bout but not by much, could have gone either way in my opinion. But I see this rematch favouring Shogun but only slightly, I see this bout going to a judges decision and Shogun winning it by unanimous decision. Shogun will come out and win the first and second round due to being more aggressive and Machida will win the third and possible fourth round, depending oin how Shoguns cardio is, but Shogun will rally in the fifth and final round and take the fight.

Winner: Mauricio Rua by Decision

Welterweight bout:  Josh Koscheck vs.  Paul Daley

I dont like Josh in the slightest but he will be able to win this fight easily in my opinion. Josh will score a few take downs at the end of the first round and steal the round. This forcing Paul Daley to come out more aggressive in the second round allowing Josh to score a KO or TKO in the middle of the round, due to Paul overpressureing Koscheck.

Winner: Josh Koscheck, Stoppage second round.

Lightweight bout:  Sam Stout vs.  Jeremy Stephens

I think that Sam Stout will be the more technical fighter and be able to handle Stephens onslught and take an unanimous decition in this fight. However Stephens is a beast and puts on a lot of pressaure, combine that with Sam Stouts inability to put together longer winning streaks could be a problem. But overall I think Sam Stout is too wellrounded and technical for Stephens to handle in Montreal.

Winner: Sam Stout, by unanimous decision.

Heavyweight bout:  Kimbo Slice vs.  Matt Mitrione

I’m not a fan of Matt Mitrione but no matter how much they hype Kimbo as a MMA-fighter he is still just a street fighter with a beard…I predict this to be a one sided fight where either Matt KO’s Kimbo or if Matt gets tagged standing he takes the fight to the ground and pounds Kimbo in dreamland. This probably will happen in the first round as Kimbo’s cardio and overall skill level is rudimentary at best.

Winner: Matt Mitrione KO or TKO, first round.

Middleweight bout:  Patrick Côté vs.  Alan Belcher

Patrick has had a slow recovery since his fight with Anderson Silva and this is is big comeback fight, if his knee hold-up he will win this one by TKO in the third round. If his knee isn’t 100% then Alan will probably be too much for him, as Alan is a very talented fighter and shouldn’t be overlooked.

Winner: Patrick Côté TKO third round.

I sure hope WEC is better this weekend

On 2010/04/24, in MMA, by Umbrood

After watching the UFC and Strikeforce the state of MMA is in trouble at least if you look at these two events. Anderson Silva not wanting to lose the title, brings back memories of Tim Silvia only fighting to keep his title. I think that Anderson is just being a egomaniac and a head case, I read Jim Ross blogpost about the UFC and he said that Anderson looks like a head case and after 36 years in Pro-Wrestling he knows a head case when he sees one.

Another possibility is that the championship contract that the UFC has Anderson looking to get fired, the contract states that as long as you are the champion you cant vacate the title or retire and go fight somewhere else. This will stop Anderson from finishing out his contract with the UFC and going into pro-boxing as the undefeated UFC champion. But Anderson’s antics in the cage and all the unprofessional behaviour I hope that he gets to fight on the under-cards or fight nights.

The Strikeforce PPV where not as exiting as I had hoped, I had high expectations on the fights but they failed to deliver. They did however deliver an after fight brawl on live tv, so the CBS execs will be really impressed by this Im sure. On top of that they did awful ratings, in the neighbourhood of a 1.0 rating if I remember correct. And why Strikeforce booked three championship fights on an two hour show is beyond me and any other reasonable humans understanding, they went 45minites long on the show, even though CBS told them after the last show that also went long that they didn’t appreciate that and they should stick the the time allotted for them.

The brawl after the main event wasnt Millers fault be just got shoved to the ground and Shields camp started kicking on him, mainly the Diaz brothers that are douchbags of the highest degree. Having Shields defend the title and retaining in his last fight for the promotion reminds me of WCW dropping a WWF (at the time) championships belt in thrash on live tv, and Dana White is turning more and more into Vince so why not throw a little Bischof in there and start a real rivalry. I know Strikeforce isn’t a legit threat to the UFC at this point and they never will if they continue to do dumb shit like this. Another tidbit from the Strikeforce show was the commentators telling the audience that theses kinds of brawls happens in MMA and its not a cause for concern…NO these things don’t happen, way to go Strikeforce putting the sport of MMA in  a bad light, portraying its fighters as roided up street fighters.

A good weekend and a crappy UFC

On 2010/04/19, in Life, MMA, Sports, YouTube, by Umbrood

Had a very good and relaxing weekend, first dinner with some good friends and a bit of alcohol. Its good to get out of the house and relax for a bit so not to get bogged down with all the other everyday things that need to be sorted. But back to this Saturdays events good conversation and excellent food makes me happy even though the weather has been shitty the last week. Got home at a sensible time and fell asleep immediately and got a good nights sleep, the following day there was an enter day of UFC planned as we got together with some other friends to watch last weeks UFC 112 and some of the eleventh season of the ultimate fighter, the company and conversations where good too bad I cant say the same for the PPV but I feel that the crappy UFC will gets its own post if I ever get the time to sort through my backlog of started blogposts and other web related projects I have started.

So that was my weekend, and hopefully during the next week I will have some time to get a few games of RftG going or some other boardgames, as I haven’t gotten around to play in a really long time. I just realised that maybe the new expansions for RftG might have gotten a release date so that is something I need to look into.

So I leave you with some Rush as I’m currently listening to Rush on spotify as I got reminded of the great Canadian rock band while listening to the great Canadian Wrestling and MMA radio show Live Audio Wrestling.

UFC countdown shows and Dana being Dana

On 2010/03/25, in MMA, Sports, by Umbrood

Been watching the UFC countdown and primetime shows, and here is my thoughts about them.

The countdown show was boring the only things that’s worth writing about is Frank and how he is a walking soundbyte talking about dreaming about Brock after getting pounded into the canvas at UFC 100 and all sorts of other cleaver things he says, there are numbers on the weightlifting plates so you can see that you are getting stronger from training. Hopefully Carwin will KO Frank in devastating fashion, and I’m impressed with Carwin having 11 fights but only 12 total minutes.

First primetime show wasn’t that exiting, still like GSP and think that Hardy is a tool. As GSP pointed out Hardy sounds like all the other fighters he has fought before and so on. The only nice scene was Hardy walking into Serra’s gym to train because we all know Serra is better than GSP! Because he bet him once before, and got totally destroyed in the rematch.

The second primetime show was way more entertaining, Serra can always sell a fight even though he isn’t even fighting. They are building up Hardy as a monster with all this rocky style street training vs. GSP high tech, glossy clean wholesome training. And I thought It was a nice touch letting Hardy sit at a bar and eat watching the first show on the TV and have people treat him as a celeb.

On a related note Dana White is getting on my nerves with all his bullshit, the latest is having Hardy’s Sanskrit tattoos removed not to piss off the Chinese. I haven’t looked into what the tattoo says and what political and religious ramification that could have, but this is a slippery slope that the UFC is going down. I’m guessing that the UFC is going to start handpicking their fighters even more than ever before so they will appeal in certain markets and that will in my opinion hamper the push for making the UFC a respected sport. And apparently some of the politicians in New York don’t like Dana and the way he does business and that could ultimately hinder and hamper the UFC getting MMA legalized in New York in the near future.

Just a quick little post

On 2010/03/18, in Life, MMA, Wrestling, by Umbrood

This is only going to be a quick little post to just get some things down on digital paper before it start with all the work that needs to be finished this week. Haven’t had time to write anything significant for a while now, I have several things half finished and I intend to finish up those things before I start something new at least.

Spent the weekend at my Dads in Vilhelmina and there will be pictures put up from that trip and a few movies, when I have time to edit them together. I still have lots of unfinished video footage from last year that Im planning on making available online at YouTube, think I have over 4gb of raw footage that needs editing. There are some nice winter landscape shots looking out over the seven parishes, and you could see for miles and miles and even some Elk.

I’m looking forward to this years WrestleMania but I have only gotten as far as two weeks out from Breaking Point last year so I have lots of storyline to catch-up with before its time for Michaels vs. Taker II and all the other exiting matches, this will probably be the best WrestleMania I have seen in a long time.

I have tried to watch all the MMA PPV’s but I have been losing interest as I haven’t been able to keep up with story lines and don’t know the back story of the fighters. But I was intrigued by the rumours that Tito got kicked from the TuF#11 show, but it turned out to be a case of the flue which saw him hospitalized, so no extra drama there. And Randy Couture has gotten himself a new and maybe first tattoo, which don’t look too bad. Apparently the Latin reads “Iron sharpens Iron”

UFC 109 PPV and Prelims

On 2010/02/11, in Sports, by Umbrood

Ill make this post while watching the PPV and prelims so I don’t know the results and this is my thoughts thorough the event.

Melvin Guillard takes on Ronys Torres, never heard of Torres but apparently he is a BJJ fighter so maybe Melvin is in trouble. I’m still amazed at how many fights Melvin as had and still being only 26 years old. The fight starts out with a good ground exchange, Melvin gets back up but are taken down again. But Melvin makes an explosive reversal and gets good position and get back to his feet again. Melvin releases lots of high kicks but Torres opens up with some flying and high speed offence. Its was an explosive and high paced first round by theses light weight fighters. Ill give the first round to Torres because of being more aggressive and scoring the takedowns. Guillard did the most damage of the two fighters, eating a big knee while shooting in for a takedown.

Second round was slower than the first but still high paced, they slug it out and Torres eats another knee while shooting in for a take down. If he keeps eating knees this could end the fight, Melvin escapes an arm bar that looked dangerous but Melvin was able to power out of the submission. The second round was close could have gone either way, depending on how the judges score take down and submission attempts vs. striking damage.

Third round was the slowest of the three not surprisingly but the take downs might have won the fight for Torres. I’m really curious how the judges will score this fight either 30-27 Torres or 29-28 also for Torres. WOW I was completely off on my scoring, maybe me dislike for Melvin affected my scoring Melvin won 29-28.

Mac Danzig have a win or go home fight against a fighter I never heard of in Justin Bucinatz. Danzig said that if he didn’t win this fight he don’t belong in the octagon, so he better win this fight. First round was back and forth striking, it had Danzig in trouble at several points in the round. This because Justin put together good combinations, and Danzig was only throwing single strikes. Second round has awesome ground exchanges, Danzig was kept in a kimura for a long time and looked to be in trouble. Danzig reversed and ended up on top for a good chunk of the round, and tries for a choke. The round ends with some questionable elbow strikes from Danzig.

The end of the third round was dominated by Danzig and he almost finished Justin. And that sealed the round and the fight in my opinion and the judges agrees giving Danzig the unanimous decision. So Danzig lives to fight another day in the UFC.

Main card action Matt Serra vs. Frank Trigg, Matt looks smaller than usual, or maybe his just leaner for this this fight. He weighed in at 171 lbs. I have Matt Serra winning this fight by KO, if he can get inside. Trigg is picking Serra apart with his longer reach, but Serra as more power in his punches and Trigg keeps backing up every time Serra moves forward. As I predicted Serra connects and put Frank down, and finish the fight with some unanswered blows. Frank Trigg complains about early stoppage as he always does, he might have taken one or two more punches but then he wouldn’t have been able to get up of the canvas that fast.

Demian Maia vs. Dan Miller I have Maia winning by submission in the second round. Maia looks really concentrated or constopaded you be the judge, he is aware that he needs to win this fight in devastating fashion to stay relevant. Hesitant opening to the round followed by clinch by the cage when Maia tried for a take down. Steve Masagatti is my hero missing the low blow and didn’t stop the fight letting Maia keep punching him in the head. Miller shows good scrambling ability every time they hit the ground, not letting Maia set up some submission attempts.

Second round back and forth exchanges, Maia shows so good and crisp striking. I really love his double pump jabs that connects beautifully on Dan Miller. Unless something drastic happens in the later stages of the second round Maia is up two rounds in this fight. A pretty uneventful round hopefully they turn the heat up in the third and final round.

Third round saw Maia get clipped and manage to get a take down and hopefully lock in a submission, I does some ground and pound instead. Maia secures a few take downs but don’t get a dominate position, just has to settle with punches from the top doing some damage. Maia will most certainly get the unanimous decision in this fight, anything else would be a big upset and totally erroneous.

Phil Davis vs Brian Stann two fighters I don’t know anything about, hopefully it will be an exiting fight nonetheless. They throw lots of hard strikes in the first round, very even round or something wasn’t really paying attention. Second round hard strikes to set up a takedown, Stann get mounted but able to put Davis back into half guard. Davis get the back and transition to full mount again, Davis has had the dominant positions but not getting any real damage done because Stann is a great wrestler. Davis drops some vicious kness to the body from side control doing some damage to Brian. Phil Davis have won both rounds so if nothing happens in the third round he have won his UFC debute in dominating fashion. Phil Davis almost finish the fight with an arm bar at the end of the fight but picking up the unanimous decision.

Paulo Thiago vs. Mick Swick I have Swick winning this fight probably a split decision, I don’t see any of them getting a TKO or KO because they will be to careful in this fight. First round a feeling out period as Swick respects Thiagos power and one punch KO power, they are both trying to engage with furious strikes, I’m changing my decision pick this fight will not go the distance as if any one connects they will follow up and the fight will be stopped. Swick got caught with a got shot about 4 minutes into the first round and was on wobbly legs but Thiago didnt jump the chance maybe not wating to be over exposed rushing in for the kill. Swick scored a take down late in the round, probably to steal the round and putting more pressure on Thiago.

Second round opens with lots of leg kicks from both fighters. Strikes setting up a darts-choke, Swick goes to sleep in the middle of the octagon. Swick took two good shoots to the head to set up the choke, he survives the first strike but the second one put him on dream street leaving the submission open for Thiago.

Nate Marquart vs. Chael Sonnen I have Nate winning this fight by decision. I like Sonnens walkin music, some county FTW. Nate has some awesome walkout music as well. Hope the fight lives up to the walkout music.

The first round starts out at qa furious pace, Nate gets a tight guillotine but Chael escapes. Chael drops some bombs on Nate from the top position, Nate is dominated by the wrestler. On their feet again, flying knee from Nate but the he gets put on his back again and takes damage.

Second round, take down from Chael but Nate tries for an arm bar but Chael escapes once again. Nate cut Chael with an elbow that you could clearly hear connecting…with a sick *thud* Nate cant escape Chaels wrestling game, Nate explodes and gets to his feet but is immediately taken down and dominated. Awesome Rogan comment Florian would be proud of that elbow

Third round Nate must stop Chael in this round or lose an unanimous decision 30-27 Nate got a tight guillotine turning Chael purple. Nate finish the fight on top but couldn’t finish Chael after landing a few good shots from the guard.

This was a three round mugging at the hands of Chael who now is in line for the title shot after Anderson Silva defends the title in a few months. Maybe Nate got the third round but Chael should win the decision. Ok I scored it correct 30-27 for Chael Sonnen due to dominating on the ground, Chael could pose a threat for the champion whom ever it may be after the next title defence.

Ok now its time for the Main Event

I have Couture wining either by decision or late stoppage is Coleman gets tired in the later rounds. Coleman needs this win more than Randy as he isnt as big a name in MMA as Randy. Randy will continue to headline as long as he decides to fight MMA despite losing a lot of fights. Maybe Coleman has a little edge in having Randys old trainer from Xtreme Couture, but I dont see that making up for Randys all around ability.

Will Randy submit Coleman, havent seen Randy going for submissions for as long as I can remeber and does Coleman have a submission defense, who knows? We will find out in soon enough.

THIS IS OUR MAIN EVENT OF THE EVENING IN THE LIGHT HEAVY WEIGHT DIVISION…

OHH-no its Stevie late stoppage Massagati reffing this bout so anything can happen.

Randys noes looked more busted up than usual going into this fight, hope it doesn’t get busted bad in the beginning affecting his cardio.

Round one,  Randy dominates with his crisp striking and the technical clinch game. The dirty boxing looked awesome as always. Coleman got tagged all the round, with the striking and not getting anything resembling a take down.

The second round he got tagged lots more times and took Coleman down and secured the rear naked choke, and Coleman being Coleman rather black out than tap out.

After the fight Tito started talking bullshit aimed at Coleman, Tito is already setting up his next fight after he loses again against Chuck Liddell in the finally of the next season of the ultimate fighter.

The fights after the Main Event saw the latest Gracie lose in the second round due to strikes. I think the Gracies haven’t evolved enough to be considered to be the best in MMA in this day and age. Ill probably write something about that in a later blog, I have finished Total MMA by Jonathan Snowden that put to light some events in the early days of MMA, before I had started watching, that concerns the Gracie clan and the old school Japan MMA fights.

As most people that know me already know I’m trying to get in better shape and lose the extra pounds I have put on over the years. I don’t have a massive amount of extra weight but anyhow, I have read tons of training guides and actually find it fun to put together some new training regiments ever so often, this not to lose interest in training.

I watch pro wrestling and MMA and there’s always lots of talk about how people stay in shape and the perfect physique is always displayed. And I do know this isn’t a new problem and exists in all media,  but I’m just focusing on pro wrestling and MMA for now. This isn’t as big a problem in MMA as its in pro wrestling, but this fall there have been a few instances that have made a fair bit of press.

Lets start in MMA as I probably need to write two posts one for MMA and one for Pro-wrestling as it will take me to long to write both at once. I have been more and more annoyed with Dana White in the last months and the many stupid comments and decisions he makes. But anyhow Dana said in the resent TuF season that  Nelson have “the worst physique in professional sports” and earlier Dana have said that if Roy Nelson is to fight in the UFC he needed to lose that belly.

Yes Roy Nelson hasn’t a chiselled physic but he has won season 10 of the ultimate fighter a former IFL Heavy weight champion. He is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt under Renzo Gracie. So he is a legitimate fighter and I also called him being the winner of the TuF 10 season, when I heard that he was partaking in the reality show.

The UFC is trying to distance themselves from its past where fighters like Tank Abbott ruled the octagon, they want chiselled and charismatic and skilled fighters like Georges “Rush” St-Pierre, Roy Nelson is two of those things.

Going back a few years I recently came across a list of the top ten stories of the past 10 years from the sherdog website. On number three there is Bob Sapp and how the Japanese people where fascinated with his sheer size, he had a chiselled physic and he could sort of fight back in the day. He last suffered a loss to the former amateur wrestler Bobby Lashley, who now has signed with Strikeforce. Bobby Lashley is also doing Pro-wrestling currently in TNA but I will probably talk more about that later.

Bob Sapp

Bobby Lashley

Lets look at the Japanese “freak show” element of the MMA scene. The Japanese and asian market have been known to put on “freak show” MMA bouts from time to time. The first thing that comes to mind is Choi Hong-man or Hong man-Choi a 7’2” 300+ pound freak of nature, not a very good fighter but he has the size and look that the Japanese like. Another thing that comes to mind is the use of Akebono in both MMA and Pro-wrestling matches.

Also on the sherdog list is the fighter that is a called the face of female MMA Gina Carano, and this brings me to talk about the females in MMA and Pro wrestling. The reason why I started writing this blog post in the first place, Gina daughter of a famous NFL QB.

Gina Carano - American Gladiators

Gina at a weigh in and competing in American Gladiators, she is according to information 5′ 8″ tall and roughly 140 pounds. I would actually put her weight around 155-160 pounds as she has had problems cutting weight before fights and coming in heavy. She is considered the face of female mixed martial arts, she is a talented fighter and was undefeated until she meet Cris Cyborg Santos and got destroyed. This was a marketed as a classic beauty vs beast match up, but Cris was just to big to strong and manhandled Gina in their fight It wasn’t even close. Gina hasn’t fought or even trained since the loss on August 15 2009. But the MMA world hopes that she can come back a put together a few wins to build for a rematch with Cyborg to be a big PPV draw.

Cris Cyborg Santos

Gina Carano

Cris Cyborg is the same height as Gina 5’8” and billed as weighing 145 pounds i would also put her weight closer to 155-160, this is walking around weight. So both fighters are in my opinion a lot heaver than their fighting weight class but that nothing new as most fighter cut at least 15 pounds to make their fighting weight, but that another discussion.

There has been lots of talk about how unfeminine Cris looks and that Gina is fat and has cancles but nonetheless there is talk about Cris doing a playboy shoot during 2010 but that’s still unconfirmed. This has me thinking of the playboy shoots Jonie Lauer did while being with the WWE but more on that later when I dive into the Pro wrestling aspect of this in part II.
