StarCraft II – Countdown!

On 2010/07/22, in Video games, by Umbrood

Got word that my copy of StarCraft II is soon on it’s way. Hopefully I will be able to get a lot of games on battle.net before I move, because I will not have a fast and inexpensive connection for quite a while. But I’m planning on saving the single player campaign for when I have moved so I can play without using up the precious quotas that will be plaguing me.

I really liked this tune, and going to see if I can find more songs by the same people.

Moving boxes

On 2010/05/18, in Life, Training, Video games, YouTube, by Umbrood

So this weekend and Monday and Tuesday I have been moving boxes and furniture and hopefully It will be sorted this week so I can focus on getting my school work done for the end of term. I’m actually amazed how much I have gotten done in a few days, so I’m both stoked and tired, the weather has been awesome and not at all designed for carrying heavy stuff. But to help with the dehydration and other things I managed to cook up some home made energy drink, consisting of:

  • Dextros
  • Salt
  • Boiled water
  • and squash or cordial depending on what’s its called in your part of the world

It worked out way above my expectations, and after a glass you felt reinvigorated and ready for more hard labour. So hopefully this will keep me from falling over for heat stroke in the next few days ;)

Now its time for some relaxation and some classic starcraft YouTube commentary conducted by moletrap

A Saturday as any other

On 2010/05/08, in Life, Video games, YouTube, by Umbrood

So I have been packing and moving lots of boxes today, so there is actually something that is getting done. Been throwing away a lot of stuff so there will be less to pack and store.  Has gotten a few games of Starcraft II in as well today, got my 25 wins in as the Zerg so I moved on to trying the Protoss, my favourite race from the original Starcraft. Been watching Huskys guide to a standard Protoss build for countering a Zerg Roach Rush too learn some basic strategies

[

So far I haven’t won a Protoss game, havent been close to wining. Just need to learn how too play as Protoss, just seem to not be building units, as I stack up way to much minerals in the early game when I need to think about what that I should be building. Need to get more comfortable with the units and buildings to be able to win games as Protoss.

Back to the moving boxes thing, I almost had a terrible accident as I was moving a few shelves one of these where a glass shelf, the last things before calling it a night. When I was putting the shelves down in the storage area the glass exploded in my hands. Luckily I didn’t cut my hands or anything else, had it been a regular pane of glass I would have probably had to go to A&E with massive cuts. But nothing that exiting, just need to clean all that broken glass up tomorrow.

So now I’m just finish watching some ustreams of Starcraft II then its time for bed.

Zerg builds, take II

On 2010/05/06, in Video games, YouTube, by Umbrood

So the previous build haven’t worked out as I had hoped. I just haven’t gotten the roaches in-mass as I thought i would and relied more on a Zergling/Muta army. This might have to do with the players I have meet or just my ineptitude in getting the build and timed right.

I do feel im getting better at countering certain units but I don’t feel comfortable going into Tier 2 units with Zerg. Need to read about all the units and get a feel for the hard counter system, which I didn’t know existed until I watched a few unit presentations on Youtube. And Im also astounded by the amount of statistics you can get from the replays in StarCraft II. I really liked the mining stats so you can actually see if you current worker saturation is sufficient or not and then tweek your build orders.

Here are some of the Huskys clips with unit presentations

A hard choice

On 2010/01/21, in Current events, YouTube, by Umbrood

David Tennant winning NTA2010 -- Best actor in a drama series. Two of my favourite British actors where nominated and it really was a hard choice who to vote for. The two actors where David Tennant (Dr.Who) and Philip Glenister (ashes too ashes) I voted for David In this case. If you haven’t seen the End of Time Dr who special don’t watch this clip from the award show as it will spoil things.

I still think its funny how different David sounds using his own voice and not the Dr.Who, I was thoroughly surprised the first time I heard him speak. And listen the the pop he gets and how he give a rub to Matt Smith and the show to use two pro-wrestling terms.

Its good that he actually gets an award as Dr.Who being a sci fi show it gets overlooked in many awards just from not being a classical drama/crime/fiction show.

Update: Apparently David and Dr.Who have won awards previously, I was under the falsehood that this was his last Chance to get awarded for his excellence.

Some new and some old

On 2010/01/19, in YouTube, by Umbrood

YouTube clips that I think are some of the best once right now. The Comedy central one is always good, and the Dr.Horrible one is my personal favourites. I like Neil Patrick Harris but haven’t followed his carrier since Doggy Howser MD and I liked his cameo in the Harold and Kumar movies.  Even though he beat out John Barrowman for the Gay/Bisexual Man of the Decade poll I still find him funny and talented. (I’m neither gay or bisexual FYI) I actually hadn’t a clue that Neil was gay before I stumbled on the link about the poll a little while ago.
